The actor reprises his brand ambassador role for the Japanese whisky maker, having previously starred in a 1992 spot.

Japanese spirit brand The House of Suntory is celebrating 100 years of whisky-making in the company of Keanu Reeves and celebrity filmmaker Sofia Coppola.

Marking a centenary of culture and craft the campaign sees Reeves reprise his role as brand ambassador from a 1992 Suntory Reserve commercial, under the expert gaze of Coppola.

The director of 2003’s drama-comedy Lost in Translation, in which a reluctant Bill Murray flies to Tokyo to film a fictional ad for Suntory, finally shoots the real thing with a heritage-steeped anniversary tribute to the artisanal brand.

Jon Potter, managing director of House of Suntory, remarked: “To mark this historic milestone, partnering with Sofia and Keanu, who are Suntory Whisky fans, makes perfect sense. From our fifth-generation chief blender Shinji Fukuyo’s striking blends to Sofia and Keanu’s unique cinematic creations, this commemoration has surpassed all expectations to celebrate our iconic Japanese whiskies.”

Follow-up activity this summer will see Reeves return as the star of a series of documentary shorts exploring ‘The Nature and Spirit of Japan’. This presages the release of several limited edition whiskies.
