Pirates go on the hunt for the new Kraken Gold Spiced Rum in ‘Tale of Gold,’ a moody, foreboding ad campaign directed by Pirates of the Caribbean animator Rich Lee.

The new Kraken Gold Spiced Rum has hit shelves in select retailers across the US and it’s the most coveted treasure since the heart of Davey Jones, according to a new ad campaign.

To hook consumers, The Kraken has released a cinematic, pirate-themed campaign called ‘Tale of Gold.’

Comprising three different spots, the campaign was filmed in South Africa over a 10-day period and directed by Rich Lee, known for creating 3D graphics for the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films.

The films tell the cautionary tale of a band of pirates who venture into the Kraken’s lair to steal its treasure. Amid piles of jewels and gold, they discover the precious Kraken Gold Spiced Rum. However, when the Lovecraftian beast discovers the pirates’ plot to steal its treasure, it exacts its brutal revenge.

The 60-, 30- and 15-second spots will run across social and online video channels. The campaign marks the first time the brand has worked with creative agency Mekanism.
