With one week to go before tax season comes to a close, H&R Block reminds consumers not to listen to one of its competitors.

One week before tax season comes to a close, H&R Block has released ‘Definitely Do Your Taxes’ – a six-spot ad campaign in direct response to TurboTax’s recent Super Bowl LVII spot that told consumers not to do their taxes.

In one of the spots, a man took TurboTax’s advice and forewent his taxes. “Now I’m stuck in a nightmare, man,“ he whimpers. “I keep checking the mail for a refund, but when I look, it is always empty.“

Other spots feature a woman who took up pottery instead of her taxes and another man who got into houseplants, neither of which are going well for them.

Ogilvy spearheaded the creative effort. “With just one week left in Tax Season, we wanted to encourage the millions of people who haven’t filed yet to come to H&R Block and celebrate the end of Tax Season with a refund,“ said Ogilvy’s creative directors Todd Bradley and Harry Barron.

“We noticed a certain other tax company had been running a campaign saying, ‘Don’t do your taxes.’ We played off that to remind people that you should definitely do your taxes because there are some real consequences if you don’t.“

The campaign will run across online video, paid social, Vice and Spotify.
