The Lakers’ superstar has broken the NBA’s all-time scoring record in his 20th season in the league, but not everyone is playing ball.

Before the record was smashed, Nike released a comical commercial featuring two persnickety puppet pundits who were set on discrediting LeBron James.

In the first ‘Mad and Madder’ episode, viewers see the downbeat duo fabricate tales, take cheap shots and demand a recount of the top scorers’ achievements while questioning: “How can you be a world champion if you haven’t played everyone on Earth?”

The parody campaign plays on naysayers who didn’t believe that the two-time Olympic champion would beat the record, previously held by NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was in attendance as James scored the record-breaking basket.

Yesterday, after the news broke of James’s success, the hosts had a lot more to say and this time, they invited Naomi Osaka, Anthony Davis and Diana Taurasi onto the show.

Nike’s long-time agency partner Wieden+Kennedy Portland also put out a black and white film to commemorate the basketballer’s legacy. In a statement, the agency said: “20 years later, we are who we’ve always been – witnesses to never-ending greatness.”
