We Are Social, the global social agency, has set its sights on China's significant tech sector, opening an office in Shenzhen, China.

Shenzhen, often referred to as China's Silicon Valley, is home to the nation's tech brands including Tencent, Huawei, DJI and BYD. The city houses more than 100 listed companies and 1,000+ high-tech businesses.

We Are Social, which already has offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, said the move aimed to align the brand with the city's entrepreneurial culture and provide "more opportunity to work with fast-moving, forward-thinking companies."

We Are Social Shenzhen will work with existing clients including Chinese smart wearable brand Amazfit, consumer electronics brand CHiQ, electric car company BYD, Only the Brave, and Snowsky Salt.

The agency will be led by Dickens Dong as general manager, who will be joined by creative director Aaron Breeds. Breeds joins from Huawei where he was client lead.

We Are Social Shenzhen launches with a team of 20 people and has aggressive growth plans and aims to double by the end of the year.

Pete Lin, North Asia CEO of We Are Social said, “Shenzhen has become strategically important for us in the past few years, as its technology brands have increased demand for our global marketing services. We believe that by being there on the ground in Shenzhen, we can more effectively address the needs of our current and future clients.”

Shenzhen initially became a tech powerhouse due to its proximity to Hong Kong, which is just one hour by car or 30 minutes by train. Chinese tech brands used this close position to help accelerate growth outside Mainland China and expand into international markets.
