US Ad of the Day: Elton John and Jack Harlow play the triangle in Doritos’ Super Bowl ad
Elton John and Jack Harlow trailblaze the triangle in Doritos’ Super Bowl LVII ad.
Music legend Elton John can excel at just about anything, including the highly misunderstood percussive instrument, the triangle. That’s according to Doritos’ Super Bowl LVII spot, ’Jack’s New Angle,’ which went live early today.
In the spot, rapper Jack Harlow decides to abandon his hip-hop career for the triangle, much to the chagrin of his musical peer, Missy Elliott. Elliott’s concerns soon dissipate as Harlow achieves even more stardom and commercial success as a triangle player.
But there’s another geometric genius Harlow is not aware of. Harlow is then seen at an illustrious award show, snacking on the triangle-shaped, Doritos Sweet & Tangy BBQ chips, and ready to bring home the Triangle Player of the Year award. Spoiler alert: the award goes to none other than Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Elton John.
The commercial is slated to run during the second quarter of Super Bowl LVII. It was directed by Wayne McClammy, who is known for his work on the 2015 Geico James Bond parody campaign.
A trio of teaser clips released over the past few weeks confirmed both Jack Harlow and Missy Elliott’s appearances in the campaign but kept John’s cameo hidden until today.
