Booking.com has created what it calls the ultimate overnight Manchester experience ahead of the city’s top teams facing off against each other on January 14 – a one-bed holiday home kitted out in the iconic colors of City and United.
Referencing the first Manchester derby in 1881, the ’Half-and-Half House’ can be booked for a night’s stay this Thursday for just £18.81. The 7x5m house comes with red and blue décor, including a half-red-half-blue bed, toilet rolls, mugs and cushions, as well as red and blue garden gnomes.
The property will later be donated to Manchester Scouts for use at the Worsley camp.
Matthias Schmid, senior vice-president of Booking.com’s trips division, said: “Whenever Mancunians travel the globe, often the first thing they are asked is whether they are a ‘red or a blue’. They are brought together by their love of football.
“There’s a warmth and vibrancy in Manchester that is unrivaled anywhere else in the world. Even in rare circumstances of apparent division, there is always an underlying unity. Manchester is one, no matter which side you’re on.”
Manchester’s tourism sector is worth around £7.9bn a year and supports 94,000 jobs, with 119 million visitors a year coming to experience the city. Many of those will be vying to experience the city’s teams’ history, which have made Manchester a key destination for football fans the world over.
