US Ad of the Day: Alicia Silverstone strips down for Peta PSA
Clueless star bares it all in ad urging consumers: ‘Don’t be a prick. Wear vegan.’
Wearing nothing but vegan leather boots in a field of cacti, 46-year-old actor Alicia Silverstone greets holiday shoppers in a new, 29-foot Times Square ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta): ‘Don’t be a prick. Wear vegan.’
The provocative campaign urges consumers to entertain the myriad other forms of plant-based leather, from mushroom to cactus and even apple.
“I never, ever, get naked in TV, in film, nothing.’ … But I’ve done it for Peta ’cause that’s how much it matters to me,” the star says in a video interview. “The amount of resources, water, food, oil for transport, the amount of energy that goes into making leather is extraordinary. It’s just not sustainable. The Earth can’t handle it.”
The billboard will be located at the intersection of 40th Street and Eighth Avenue.
