Nike has set about challenging refugee stereotypes in a documentary with Bayern Munich player Alphonso Davies.

Ahead of Davies playing his first World Cup for the Canadian men’s team, Nike has retold his story from a refugee camp to professional football. “Anyone can become a refugee – it’s not something you choose,” is the message from Davies in the film.

Davies was born in a Ghanaian refugee camp after his parents fled the Liberian civil war. When he was five his family moved to Canada, where he picked up football.

His story is the second part of Nike’s latest docuseries ‘Home,’ which recounts stories of displaced athletes.

Dutch agency We Are Pi is behind the series.
