Brewery’s creative director Nick Dwyer channels Fantasia and Looney Tunes for retelling of Coleridge’s Rime of The Ancient Mariner.

To mark Halloween, Beavertown Brewery has reimagined Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s eerie poem Rime of The Ancient Mariner with a hand-drawn illustrated ad set in the briny depths of deep space.

Inspired by Disney’s Fantasia and old-school Looney Tunes cartoons, the short film is a modern take on the 18th-century poem, with illustrations modeled on the original drawings by French artist Gustave Doré. The beer brand has subbed its usual bright color palette and fun tone for one that is much spookier.

Titled ‘Nautical Space Nightmare’, the spot was hand illustrated frame by frame (12 a second, to be exact) by animator and director Alice Bloomfield and the brewery’s creative director Nick Dwyer. It is the first moving animation produced by Beavertown.

To coincide with the release, it has also released a bright red lager called Blood of The Mariner.
