Marvel Snap, a mobile game inspired by the global superhero phenomenon, has surprised fans by inviting Samuel L Jackson to reprise his role as Nick Fury – only to have him fired.

The headline-grabbing campaign from Mischief @ No Fixed Address fuels anticipation for the glitzy card game, which brings the extended superhero family to life in digital form for your battling pleasure.

In it Jackson meets his match when informed that he has been replaced on the team by a young Marvel Snap fan, prompting him to declare: “Are you out of your fu-” before he is promptly cut off.

Kevin Mulroy, executive creative director and partner at Mischief, said: “At this point, Samuel L Jackson basically is Nick Fury. He’s not a guy you just up and fire. And if you do, the replacement better have a pretty sick resume, saving the world and whatnot. So we had fun playing with who that person could be, and keeping the scene human and intimate. At its core, it’s a scene about a man losing his job – to someone who wasn’t even born the first time he prevented the annihilation of the human race.”

Taking the idea and running with it, Marvel Snap will release a dozen further humorous videos imagining who might replace Fury as S.H.I.E.L.D director.
