Ad of the Day: Peta parodies 70s sci-fi to discourage eating of Octopus
Animal rights charity employs dark humor in ‘Beware the Octocurse’, Grey London’s first work for the brand.
‘Beware the Octocurse’ parodies a retro sci-fi series from the 1970s, opening with a presenter dramatically warning viewers that what they are about to see could disturb them.
It goes on to show various people who have succumbed to the curse after eating Octopus – one growing tentacles, another developing three hearts, as others display extreme emotion and even bleed blue ink.
The film finishes with the line: ‘Octopuses are extremely intelligent, sensitive creatures. If you eat them you’re basically a cannibal. Stay human. Don’t eat octopus.’
The ad was directed by Jeff Low and marks the first time Grey has worked with Peta.
