‘The Eternal Collection’ was an immediate hit on OpenSea, even while the NFT market as a whole continues to struggle amid the ongoing “crypto winter.”

Legendary actor Sir Anthony Hopkins’ debut NFT collection sold out in less than seven minutes after it was released this morning on OpenSea, an NFT auction platform. According to a tweet from Orange Comet, the NFT production company that partnered with Hopkins for the NFT launch, it was “the fastest sell-out in OpenSea history.”

‘The Eternal Collection,’ as Hopkins’ NFT collection is titled‚ features more than 1,000 virtual tokens, each paying homage to “the vast character archetypes Sir Anthony Hopkins has portrayed over his illustrious film career,” according to Orange Comet’s website. Those archetypes include ‘The Jester,’ ‘The Creator’ and ‘The Explorer.’

The collection also draws upon artistic themes from Hopkins’ own paintings, which according to Orange Comet “are continuously evolving and are featured in distinguished collections worldwide.”

10 randomly-assigned tokens in the collection will enable their holders to participate in a Zoom call with Hopkins.

The immediate success of ‘The Eternal Collection’ belies a general downward trend in the NFT market. Demand for virtual tokens appears to have decreased dramatically since the onset of the “crypto winter” beginning back in May. A Reuters report published earlier this month found that NFT sales had dropped by around 60% in the third quarter of 2022, compared to Q2. Just this morning, Quartz reported that NFT trading volume “across all sectors” has decreased by roughly 90% since this time in 2021.
