Australia’s iconic Sydney Football Stadium is the star of a new brand-sponsored documentary screening on the Nine Network and Stan.

The documentary, Our Place: The Sydney Football Stadium was created by video content agency hellofuture.tv. Filmed over three years, the documentary follows the progression of the new stadium as it rose from the rubble of the former sports ground.

The film was originally commissioned as a branded client project for the construction company responsible for the rebuild, John Holland. However, hello.future.tv quickly recognised the broader cultural and historical significance of the project.

“Twelve months into the project we saw a bigger opportunity to lift the filming work out from their branded work and create an unbranded documentary,” said hello.future.tv founder & producer Emily Bull.

The agency pitched the film to Nine and Stan, which immediately picked it up for broadcast. John Holland remained on board as the film’s sponsor.

The documentary premiered last week to coincide with the new Sydney Football Stadium’s opening weekend, which saw the site host an NRL match and international rugby test.

The documentary explores the history and heritage of the venue, which is home to three football codes: Football, Rugby League and Rugby Union, as well as exploring the rebuild and the journey of the new stadium through the complexities of the Covid-19 pandemic.
