The bonus will give customers the chance to stream entertainment as part of their membership package from September, including original dramas such as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the latest films such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

All this will be offered for the same $98 annual fee (or $12.95 a month), saving members an additional $59 fee for the Paramount+ Essential Plan.

Chris Cracchiolo, senior vice-president and general manager of Walmart+, said: “With the addition of Paramount+, we are demonstrating our unique ability to help members save even more and live better by delivering entertainment for less, too. 85% of US households use streaming services and Paramount+ has the premium content and broad appeal that our members are looking for – like Walmart, it has something for everyone.”

Jeff Shultz, chief strategy officer and chief business development officer at Paramount Streaming, added: “Pairing Walmart’s expansive reach across the country with Paramount+’s broad and popular content that offers something for everyone is a unique opportunity to expand our partnership.”

Walmart has been striving to make its paid member services good value in the knowledge that consumers are increasingly keen to consolidate memberships amid subscription fatigue.
