Amazon Prime Video is supporting equality in baseball to redress a startling imbalance of the sexes as part of its promotional activity for A League of Their Own.

The groundbreaking series, which documents the experiences of trailblazing female players, seeks to level the playing field in a sport where of 4 million players aged six to 12, just 100,000 are girls.

The streaming video platform has spelled out its message using 30,000 strategically-placed baseballs, which together make a letter of support when viewed from afar. In this way, it is hoped to open the eyes of viewers to the need to lower barriers for future female baseball stars.

The launch was attended by many female athletes, including the first women to appear in the starting line-up of an Atlantic League baseball game, to help inspire future generations to pick up the bat.

Leo Macias, global vice-president of market and activation at Amazon Prime Video & Studios, said: “We created more than just a marketing activation. The more than fifty thousand baseballs transformed into this Letter to the Future is a reminder that when several dissenting voices come together, the message grows even louder. This is historic and important to all women baseball’s leagues.”

The heartfelt letter was written in partnership with Baseball for All, a not-for-profit organization that builds gender equality by ensuring girls have the opportunity to play, coach and participate.
