Destination NSW has teamed with event producers TEG and the SXSW Conference and Festivals to launch an Asia Pacific instalment of its iconic SXSW event.

SXSW Sydney will be an exploration of the best in music, screen, gaming, technology, and innovation featuring thinkers and creatives from the world of tech, film and music.

The week-long event will take place in October 2023. It will build on the foundations of the infamous Austin, Texas event to create a "must-attend event" for people focused on future trends and emerging technology.

Roland Swenson, CEO & co-founder of SXSW, said, "The purpose of SXSW is to help creative people achieve their goals. Sydney is the ideal city to serve as a home for the cross-collaboration that exists within the many industries we bring together."

Geoff Jones, the group CEO of TEG, said, "SXSW is an event without equal internationally that has launched the careers of so many creative professionals,"

"Through showcasing the creator industries of the Asia Pacific to the world, SXSW Sydney will establish a new SXSW touchpoint, enabling the international and cross-sector connections that deliver the most innovative products and content."

Colin Daniels, the executive director of Handsome Tours, which is owned by TEG, will assume the role of Managing Director of SXSW Sydney.

The Sydney event will be in addition to the regular annual event in Austin.
