New Zealand streaming service TVNZ+ has released three hilarious short commercials that detail what can happen if you get too engrossed in TV or films.

‘It’s Free. But it Could Cost You’ was devised by Dentsu Creative and directed by Sweetshop’s Damien Shatford. The trio of ads depicts the classic film narratives of a romantic declaration, gangster antics and a bank heist – which all take an unexpected turn due to one of the characters watching something on TVNZ+.

“We wanted to capitalize on the idea that bingeing fresh content puts you in good social standing and gives you something to talk about while also triggering this little dopamine hit, making us generally pretty happy,” said Stevie Weber, executive director, strategy at Dentsu Creative.

“So it was a no-brainer that we should celebrate Kiwis getting their binge on.”
