Sustainable shoe and clothing brand Allbirds is stepping into summer with its latest running shoe, The Tree Flyer, with the ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Parent Trap’ star as its ambassador.

Founded in 2016, Allbirds is a New Zealand/American brand that seeks to replace petroleum-based synthetic materials in footwear with sustainable alternatives. The brand reports that 75% of its materials are sustainably sourced, natural and recycled. Utilizing Lindsay Lohan’s iconic name, the brand seeks to spread its mission to a broader audience.

Enter Allbirds’ limited-edition pink Tree Flyer shoes. They evoke early 2000s flair, and "avoid the plastics," as the “unexpected athlete hero” says in the brand’s one-minute campaign video.

“I didn’t run track in high school – I was more of a mathlete,” she says in the spot, referring to her leading role in the cult classic, “Mean Girls.”

The Tree Flyers are catered towards runners of all levels, to make both fitness and sustainability easy and accessible. The limited-edition shoes are available beginning June 29 for $180.

Sustainability and sneakers appear to be ontrend. Dole's Piñatex, a leather substitute made from pineapple skins that would have simply become trash, took home the Grand Prix for Creative Business Transformation at Cannes Lions last week.
