Cloud-based tech company Salesforce is officially staking its claim in the web3 space. Today, the company announced the launch of its NFT Cloud pilot program, designed to provide its customers with an easy-to-use and comprehensive suite of tools for managing their own NFT campaigns.

Unveiled as part of the company’s 2022 Connections conference, the new NFT Cloud pilot will enable brands to “mint, manage and sell NFTs directly on the Salesforce Customer 360 Platform and securely connect customer data to gain a 360° view across a customer’s physical and digital worlds,” Salesforce said in a statement.

The new NFT pilot program, according to Salesforce, has been designed with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. “Our cloud pilot is built with sustainability at its core,” Adam Caplan, senior vice-president of emerging technology at Salesforce, said during a virtual press conference on Monday. “It has net-zero built in, so our brands can enter this space with a values-led approach.”

Caplan said that the new pilot program is also “providing brands with more sustainable blockchain options, automating carbon emission calculations and letting brands offset emissions by purchasing carbon credits.” Salesforce is “working with [sustainability] and climate leaders across the globe, and really supporting the Crypto Climate Accord.”

Trust and security are also key pillars for the new NFT pilot program. Kaplan said that Salesforce has “written smart contracts for [Salesforce] clients, so they don’t need to code.” The company has also audited those contracts, which “means we can help reduce fraud and avoid some of the challenges associated with smart contracts,” according to Caplan. The company is also “working with third-party partners” to protect clients’ crypto wallets, and “providing [a] secure and authenticated checkout experience.”

The new NFT pilot program, Caplan said, is being launched in an effort to respond to a growing eagerness among Salesforce customers to expand into web3. “It’s early days,” he said during Monday’s press conference. “Web3 is so new, but our brands are leaning in. They’re excited. CMOs are excited ... And they’re asking us to lead them into web3.”
