A pop-up TV channel, two pubs and a beach in London: The Drum’s Cannes plans

May 25, 2022 | 5 min read

The Drum has announced it is to launch a pop-up 24-hour TV channel, two pubs and a Shoreditch beach bar as part of its activity for Cannes Lions.

The TV channel – perhaps an industry first – will be livestreamed to The Drum’s homepage and will include documentaries and chat shows, as well as a flagship Morning Show. It will be broadcast both from Cannes and The Drum Labs in London, which will also provide a program for those in the UK who cannot make it to the South of France.

The schedule in France will be equally packed. The Drum has joined forces with Reddit to open a venue that will host talks as well The Drum TV’s Morning Show.

Meanwhile, it is reopening The Drum Arms in Cannes, where people can again attend to enjoy the odd pint and panel session and become part of the audience for The Evening Show, a live broadcast that will cover Cannes highlights every day.

Another highlight of the calendar will be a livestream of the Chip Shop Awards ceremony, which will broadcast from both The Drum Arms in Cannes and The Drum Labs in Shoreditch.

Gordon Young, co-founder of The Drum, said: “It is great to see Cannes coming back with such vigor. But there is no doubt fewer people will attend this year, partly because many are concerned the environmental impact of travel. Our aim is to make sure our readers can feel really engaged with this event, no matter where in the world they are based.”

It will coincide with The Drum’s month-long celebration of creativity. For our latest Deep Dive, running throughout June, we’ll spotlight the best, bravest and boldest work and will also reveal our definitive list of The World’s Best Ads of All Time (there’s still time to have your say by clicking here).

Here’s what you need to know:

When: June 20-23

Where: The Drum Arms: Morrison’s Lounge, 10 Rue Tesseire, Cannes. Reddit cabana: Intersection of Prom Robert Favre le Bret and Rue Buttura, Cannes

Cannes Lions

Le Drum Arms is back! We’ll be returning to our favorite French pub just minutes from the Croisette to offer pies, pints and panel sessions throughout the festival. With a daily happy hour, it’s the go-to place for a glass of something cold while you watch as we wrap up the day’s most important news in a live broadcast to our London studio.

We’ve also partnered with Reddit to host a variety of events from its exclusive venue on Rue Buttura.

When: June 21-23

Where: 23 Curtain Rd, London, EC2A 3LT

For those unable to attend Cannes Lions, don’t worry. We have plenty for you at The Drum Labs, our new event space, which for the duration of the festival has been rebranded to The Drum Arms and taken on a distinctly more exotic feel.

The much-loved Shoreditch bar has been transformed to a Beach Club where we’ll be hosting discussions, debates and networking.

Our venue will provide live links to what is happening at our venues in France, provide content for our TV studio and a chance for the London industry to sip rosé, listen to amazing talks and network at our cabana.

The Drum will launch the very first pop-up 24-hour marketing TV channel. It will be streamed live on The Drum site and it schedule will contain the likes of a Morning Show (hosted by Gordon Young), a Lunchtime Show and an Evening Show.

The schedule will be packed in between with news reports, documentaries and chat shows to give you all the latest news from Cannes and beyond.

If you’d like to attend our events, please register your interest on our dedicated website.
