The artwork was created by BBC art director Reuben Dangoor and is in response to the huge amount of online abuse the footballer receives. It features a very zen-looking Rashford, surrounded by both positive and negative social media comments, seemingly drowning out the noise surrounding him.
Painted on to the side of the Hare & Hounds pub, the eye-catching artwork is just a short walk away from both the city’s National Football Museum and AO Arena. Havas Entertainment and Talon handled the media planning and buying, with Global Street Art Agency also collaborating on the project.
According to Dangoor’s LinkedIn post, Beats By Dre “wanted to highlight the positive work he’s been doing off the pitch and the impact that it’s had.”
Back in 2020, Rashford was featured in a mural by street artist Akse in the city for his work during the Covid-19 pandemic to tackle food poverty.
After Rashford missed a penalty kick for England in the Uefa Euro 2020 Final the mural was vandalized, prompting many people to post messages of support for the United player.
