Mattel marks Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with regal Barbie
Mattel has made a play for Barbie loyalists and royalists by molding a representation of UK monarch Queen Elizabeth II in plastic to mark the upcoming Platinum Jubilee.
The Queen Elizabeth II doll is part of the Barbie Tribute collection
Marking 70 years of service to the nation, the doll resembles the symbolic figurehead of the UK and the Commonwealth and has been released to coincide with the reigning monarch’s 96th birthday today.
Part of the Barbie Tribute collection designed to honor ‘visionary individuals with an outstanding impact and legacy,’ the Queen Elizabeth II Barbie doll is presented in full regalia with an ivory gown, flowing ribbons and a jewel-encrusted tiara.
Presented in an ornate Buckingham Palace-themed box framing the figurine for posterity in a red-carpeted throne room, the doll will be available to purchase via Harrods, Hamley’s, Selfridges, John Lewis and Amazon.
In recent years Mattel has sought to clean up Barbie’s image by utilizing ocean plastic waste in its manufacture.
