The talent, studios and brands pushing the boundaries of the design industry will be celebrated at The Drum Awards for Design, which returns for 2022 with a stellar new international jury on a mission to honor those who stand apart from the status quo.

The Drum Awards for Design jury are seeking out the industry's gamechangers

Chaired by Natasha Chetiyawardana, co-founder of Accenture Interactive agency Bow & Arrow, the judging panel comprises design leaders from New York, London, Sao Paolo, Melbourne, Mumbai, Stockholm, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Auckland and beyond. They represent companies including Burberry, Droga5, Spotify, Wolff Olins and Pinterest. You can see the full list of judges below.

Meeting for the first time earlier this month, they shared their collective desire to shake up design for good and uncover the industry’s game changers. Composed of 68% women and 50% people of color, the jury itself has been designed to push the boundaries of the industry it represents.

Chetiyawardana said: “It’s a very bold group and unfortunately not a reflection of the design industry. Our young designers do not look up and usually see this much representation in design leadership. But our intention is to challenge established thinking and norms and help the industry to be better.

“There is a huge need for difference at the top of this industry; for honesty, intimacy and a new breed of modern leadership. This is what you see from this group of people. From geography to age, gender to neurodiversity…they do not have a homogenous point of view. But it is a real one. We are a group of people who are passionate about the future – and up for changing it.”

At a time when the design industry has begun to rethink ways of working, the make-up of teams and the nature of collaboration with clients, new awards have been added to recognize those leading this change. They include the Conscious Design and Ageing by Design awards, and a call for the industry’s Game Changers to step forward as part of the Design Reimagined 2022 category.

Accepting entries now, the global awards will highlight the best in design craft, strategic thinking, and execution, and are open to anyone using design thinking to make a difference. Last year the design Grand Prix was awarded to PlayStation and its agency partners for their takeover of the iconic London Underground roundels.
