The new consultancy will target the growing market for digital transformation services, which has emerged as a major growth area for agencies during the course of the pandemic.

Thread will be led by Michaeljon Alexander-Scott and Lilian Tse, who join M&C from Accenture Interactive design shop Fjord.

Moray MacLennan, chief exec of M&C Saatchi, said: “Clients increasingly recognize the importance of developing new digital products and services to diversify their revenue streams. Thread, and the experience that MJ and Lilian bring, enables us to expand into this growing territory and continue to accelerate our investment in differentiating digital capabilities.”

The new consultancy will be “fueled“ by 70 specialists across the globe, the agency wrote in a statement, and would help clients discard “dominant models of corporate innovation“ as they seek to “successfully innovate and reinvent“.

Alexander-Schott and Tse said: “We’re focused on helping ambitious clients reinvent their business in the face of relentless competition and changing customer expectations. As business leaders at management consultancies and design studios we’ve seen what works and what doesn’t.

“The traditional consultancy model makes corporate innovation too difficult, too slow and too expensive, so we’re absolutely delighted to join M&C Saatchi Group and offer clients a new and more dynamic way of collaborating that is built around their needs and priorities.“

M&C Saatchi has been at the center of a takeover drama in recent weeks after its largest shareholder attempted to acquire the firm. But in late January, M&C’s board rejected her second proposal.

In a trading update released earlier in January, the company’s board predicted strong trading results from the 2021 financial year.
