Traveloka gamifies travel in South East Asia with mobile game championship

Indonesia-based lifestyle and travel app Traveloka has launched a campaign to boost the tourism economy as South East Asian countries reopen to tourists.

The campaign, called Game Farm International Championship, will see participants compete against opponents across the SEA and win prizes. The prizes include free flight tickets, free five-star staycation, gift vouchers & coupons, free smartphones, and many more.

The game is available on the Traveloka app where over 20 casual games in Game Farm are available for free, including puzzle games, memory games, multi-level games, and many more. Users who play Game Farm daily will be able to win vouchers and coupons to purchase or redeem Traveloka products.

This comes as a Newzoo report found the region generated game revenues of $4.4 billion in 2019, an impressive year-on-year growth of 16%. Some 70% of the total revenue (USD 3.1 billion) comes from mobile games. Singapore’s games and esports market is estimated to have grown 15% between 2019 and 2020, with around 220 companies currently.

We have seen a rapid increase of mobile games' interests in the Southeast Asia region in recent years,” said Andhini Putri, the vice president of marketing transport and financial services at Traveloka.

“The approach of combining discounts and a mobile game championship will provide a new, comprehensive, unique, and more interactive experience with Traveloka.”

In addition to the campaign, Traveloka will also launch 12.12 deals to offer daily flash deals, and coupon drops worth up to SGD 1,212. The 12.12 campaign will also award the top three spenders of the event with in-app purchases a chance to win free holiday bookings.

Users who top the daily leaderboard for the 12.12 events will also be able to win prizes through Traveloka's partnerships with lifestyle brands and accommodation, attraction, and tour partners.
