O2 creates Snapchat AR store for Samsung Black Friday deals

Telecoms provider O2 has embraced Snapchat’s augmented reality (AR) functionality to promote Samsung Black Friday deals within an ‘AR store of the future.’

The hi-tech sales pitch invites prospective customers to snag a bargain without putting their current phone down by transforming the four walls around them into a virtual sales floor.

Using their screen as a window to all the best deals, Snapchatters will be able to peruse three Samsung products via a custom lens experience, with a ‘Shop Now’ button waiting to be pressed to close the deal.

The Snapchat lens will showcase the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and Samsung Galaxy Watch4

Devised in concert with Snap O2’s Black Friday campaign, the futuristic medium will showcase the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and Samsung Galaxy Watch4 in the best possible light.

Simon Valcarcel, marketing director at Virgin Media O2, said: “Black Friday is an important sales period for O2 and our phone partners, so it’s essential that our campaigns cut through all the noise to raise awareness of our great deals during this time. Our first AR Shop of the Future offers a unique and engaging shopping experience for our customers, enabling them to explore our Black Friday deals and make a purchase when and where it suits them.”

To activate the experience, Snapchatters need to simply select the O2 icon from the Snapchat carousel to be whisked to the O2 AR store, where an animated robot awaits as a guide. Utilizing gyroscopic view functionality, the dynamic scene shifts in response to where you point the camera, placing the customer in control of what they see.
