Xbox plays its part in boosting vaccine take-up

The Microsoft-owned video game brand has partnered with the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) to leverage its Twitter clout to push the buttons of gamers and dispel misinformation.

Some 16.5 million followers receive a steady diet of vaccine info from the brand, which assures readers that the jab contains no hidden magnets or microchips and will not alter your DNA.

Appealing to a common desire to do good, be that in virtual or real-world environments, the company tweeted:

A flurry of follow-up tweets directed anyone interested to the latest coronavirus updates, including the first Covid-19 vaccine to be approved for people as young as 16 by the US Food and Drug Administration and CDC evidence of no long-term health implications among the millions who have already been vaccinated.

To date, obtaining the vaccine remains a matter of personal choice and in the ad industry the holding companies are largely holding off on mandatory jabs – although IPG recently broke ranks to demand proof of vaccination or a negative test result.

Instead, health authorities have been ratcheting up warnings of the risks associated with failing to get protection while collaborating with social media firms such as Facebook to ban anti-vaxxer ads.
