The Drum is inviting 180 of our readers to take part in a virtual drum session for beginners, led by the not- for-profit Drum Works on Tuesday, August 3rd at 12pm EST/ 5pm BST, as part of the #PullA180 global digital fundraising campaign for United World Schools (UWS), in partnership with Shutterstock.

Participants are invited to ‘drum and donate’ by joining the virtual jam session, equipped with their own drum kit (kitchen utensils or household appliances). The campaign encourages donations from those taking part to support UWS on its mission to help provide free quality education for children in some of the poorest regions in the world.

“The Drum audience has always known that marketing can change the world; some of you have even done it,” said Lynn Lester, managing director of events, The Drum. “It’s just as true that any emotive experience can spur someone towards that change, none more so than when performing or listening to music. So, get your drumsticks ready and join us in this movement. We might not break a Guiness World Record but hopefully our combined efforts can contribute in a purposeful way to help turn around the lives of children around the world.”

Why 180? Three hours (or 180 minutes) is the time it takes 6-year-old Amir to walk to and from school every single day; that’s three hours of clambering up steep hills and through dense vegetation. In his region of Nepal, less than a third of the population completes primary school, keeping children in remote and marginalized communities trapped in a cycle of poverty and illiteracy.

#PullA180 to turn kids' lives around

Amir’s resilience inspired the #PullA180 challenge, devised and developed by a team of top creative talent across the world, to play a part in turning the lives of kids like Amir around, by helping to raise the funds to build more schools. All funds raised through this initiative will help to give thousands of children a chance to go to school for the very first time.

Register here today, as only the first 180 registrants will be selected for the event and get a chance to march to the beat of their own drum.

The #PullA180 challenge is part of a wider UK Aid Match campaign where the government will double any donations to UWS before the campaign ends on July 29, 2021.
