Going places: The Drum's new starters and promoted team members

This investment in its journalism is part of The Drum's own evolution from news publisher to home of insights and inspiration on the issues that matter most in marketing today.

Introducing The Drum's new hires:

Kendra Clark, formerly editorial manager at digital marketing and creative agency Thunderfoot, has taken up the role of US reporter. Based in New York and working alongside US editor Kenneth Hein, Clark’s reporting will focus on digital transformation including commerce, data and CTV.

Deborah Raffaele is our new senior video and audio producer. Based in London, this vastly experienced filmmaker will work on a variety of multimedia projects at The Drum, including editorial series, online festivals and branded films produced by The Drum Studios.

Amy Beveridge will come on board as sub-editor in April. Beveridge is currently senior-sub editor at DC Thomson title The Evening Express. She is based in Scotland.

The new arrivals join as several current staff members step into well-deserved new roles:

John McCarthy, a senior reporter who has been with The Drum for almost seven years, is being promoted to media editor. Already author of the popular Future of Media newsletter, McCarthy will also head up a new Future of Media coverage strand The Drum will be introducing soon.

Imogen Watson is stepping up from reporter to senior reporter, specialising in creativity. Along with helming The Drum’s Creative Works platform, Watson is the go-to journalist for the inside story on the world’s best new creative campaigns.

Ellen Ormesher, who was previously editorial assistant, is moving up to staff writer. Ormesher will contribute to The Drum’s creative coverage, as well as producing content for a new work and wellbeing area of thedrum.com dedicated to exploring how the working world is changing during and post-pandemic.

Chris Sutcliffe, a highly versatile multimedia journalist who has played a key role establishing The Drum’s video production team, is to take up a new role within the editorial team as senior journalist. Sutcliffe’s coverage will focus on the agency business and media.

And Jen Faull has returned to The Drum after maternity leave. As a senior editor, the experienced journalist will cover an array of topics related to modern marketing.

Cameron Clarke, editor of The Drum, said: “All of these exciting changes will help us offer our readers an even deeper take on what’s really important in marketing and media today.

“I’m incredibly proud of, and grateful to, each and every member of our editorial team for all the hard work they do to deliver original and insightful marketing journalism day in, day out. With our expanded team, we will now be able to live up to our mission of offering invaluable solutions to our readers like never before.”

The latest moves signify the continuation of a new editorial era at The Drum which has seen Cameron Clarke step up to overall editor, Rebecca Stewart become trends editor and Kenneth Hein and Amit Bapna join the business as US editor and APAC editor-at-large respectively. Bapna supports The Drum’s APAC publisher Charlotte McEleny, who was this month named journalist of the year at the PRCA SEA Awards 2021.
