Clarke, who has been with the The Drum for more than 13 years, has been leading the publication’s global editorial team and output as head of content since April 2020.

Now in the formalised role as editor, he will have overall responsibility for shaping The Drum’s editorial direction into the new year and beyond.

Gordon Young, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Drum, said: “Cameron has done a brilliant job heading up the content team, creating a fresh, forward-facing editorial direction that is taking The Drum to new heights, and so I’m delighted to officially name him our new editor for a new era.”

Clarke added: “It’s a huge privilege to be named editor. Seeing The Drum’s transformation from a niche UK title to a global media brand up close over the last decade has been a thrill and I’m beyond excited to be taking up the editorship for the next stage of its journey.

“I count our journalists around the world as the best in the business and our goal, at this critical time for the industry, is to give our readers the information and inspiration they need to prosper in the months ahead.”

Based in the UK, Clarke joined The Drum in 2007 as a reporter and has since served as opinion editor and deputy editor. He was named feature writer of the year at the PPA Scottish Magazine Awards 2017.

He now leads a team of journalists spanning London, New York, Glasgow, Singapore and Mumbai. The Drum’s ranks were bolstered last year with the arrivals of Kenneth Hein as US editor and Amit Bapna as APAC editor-at-large, supporting APAC publisher Charlotte McEleny, as well as the promotion of London-based Rebecca Stewart to trends editor.

Symbolising The Drum’s evolution as a media brand, the company will in 2021 throw open the doors to The Drum Labs, a new three-story live events venue in London’s Shoreditch encompassing a recording studio, smart cafe and cutting-edge retail space.
