You may not be anywhere near the office water cooler right now, but we still want to spotlight the most talked about creative from the brands that should be on your radar. Today, everyone is talking about ‘The Great Unfollow’ – a movement started by UK indie creative agency Creature to disarm Donald Trump on Twitter.

Creature‘s ‘The Great Unfollow‘ campaign urges Twitter users to strip Donald Trump of his social media clout.

Independent London creatives Creature are wasting no time in sticking the knife into Donald Trump, by picking off the outgoing US president‘s army of followers in a coordinated push to quieten one of the loudest voices on social media.

The Great Unfollow‘ does what it says on the tin by encouraging the public to disarm Trump – diluting the efficacy of his Twitter pronouncements, which have been used to spread misinformation throughout his presidency – by simply switching him off.

Pulling no punches, the tongue-in-cheek campaign depicts an irate Trump pulling a tantrum in a nappy alongside the headline ‘Twitter‘s biggest Loser‘. The campaign states: “It’s time to turn his most powerful weapon against him, stripping him of its influence. And, at the same time, hitting him where it hurts: square in the ego.“

By turning their backs on the president, members are invited to ‘pop‘ Trump‘s balloon by navigating a blue Twitter bird icon to a direct link to the official profile, where users can cut ties with the account.

Word of mouth has seen the campaign achieve viral status despite a lack of funding with Twitter superstars Caitlin Moran, Gina Martin and Adam Kay all picking up the baton to spread the word.

Trump has employed Twitter as a powerful tool to circumvent the media and address voters directly throughout his presidency, employing a mixture of un-statesmanlike language and outright falsehoods to generate a lot of noise.

This combative approach has forced Twitter to hide several contentious tweets posted the day after the US election in which Trump stated his vote lead had 'started to magically disappear' and spoke of 500,000 votes being at risk.

Twitter hid these comments behind an official warning stating: “Some or all of the content shared in this tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process.“

Trump‘s election loss means he will no longer be protected by a Twitter policy that bars ‘newsworthy individuals‘ from being banned for violating community standards, meaning he could be banished with repeated future infractions.
