Quite possibly the purest thing on the internet right now – who knew all the world needed was Ocean Spray, Fleetwood Mac's Dreams and carefree skaters?

Gliding serenely down the highway with only a bottle of Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry for company, Nathan Apodaca's intoxicating ode to Fleetwood Mac swiftly went viral, racking up nearly 26 million views on TikTok.

There's no doubt the world is currently on edge, with the ongoing pandemic and upcoming US elections. Apodaca, therefore, offered a refreshing respite from the madness, inspiring the social brigade to begin creating their own versions, including the 73-year-old Fleetwood Mac's namesake drummer Mick Fleetwood, who specifically joined TikTok just to get involved.

As people clambered on board the hype, the stage was set for Ocean Spray to jump in and acknowledge that its juice had inadvertently stumbled upon global fame. However, the brand decided to sit back, play it cool and allow the meme to unfold organically. Until now.

It turns out that Apodaca was in fact longboarding to work after his car battery had died, and so over a week after his video went viral, Ocean Spray delivered him a new one, laden with bottles of Cran-Raspberry. Then, inspired by the video, Ocean Spray's chief exec Tom Hayes hopped on his skateboard to record his own version.

The whole episode is a testament to the capacity of TikTok to cause a sensation. Beyond its dense library of bite-size memes, the short-form video app has been seriously impacting popular music. Last year Lil Nas X ‘Old Town Road’ (and its many remixes) became the longest-reigning Billboard Hot 100 Number 1 in the chart’s history after initially going viral on TikTok.

43-years after Fleetwood Mac's Dreams first hit the charts, the song is now sitting at the top of the iTunes single charts, and the band's Greatest Hits is second in the album charts. All thanks to a man sipping Ocean Spray on a skateboard.

While Ocean Spray is yet to release sales figures, the thirst-quenching meme is sure to have encouraged people to reach for a bottle from the supermarket fridge.
