The Drum is launching Working it Out, a new briefing designed to help you navigate today's world of work by giving you a heads up on great opportunities and practical advice about how to upskill and seize new roles.

It's been a pretty tough year – and we may not be through the worst of it yet. Furlough has become a fixture of the lexicon. Best laid career plans have stalled.

Per IPA Bellwether, half of UK marketers anticipate staff cuts by the end of the furlough scheme in October.

The Creative Industries Federation predicts job losses of 26% (49,000) in UK advertising alone.

And the Chartered Institute of Marketers (CIM), said of 415,000 staff, there will be 37,000 redundancies and 83,000 pay cuts.

That’s a lot of out of work professionals and, we acknowledge, The Drum readers.

So, here’s how we plan to help.

  • Twice a month, we’ll send you the Working it Out newsletter. The first will hit inboxes Tuesday (6 October). It will be stuffed with must-read insights for those hunting for, worrying about, or fighting for their jobs.

  • We’ll bring you hard facts about the market, but we'll also share powerful human stories about those navigating the supposed ‘new normal’; we’ll also ensure the industry’s much-needed diversity and inclusion efforts don’t go on the back-burner.

  • We're opening up free use of The Drum Jobs, our jobs platform to The Drum Network members. If you’re hiring, we’d love to host and spotlight the roles. We’ll also highlight the webinars and events you should attend.

  • We’re in discussions with partners to add more benefits in the reskilling and employment space, as well as some free access to our magazine – so keep checking in.

  • And finally, we want to hear from you. Are you hunting for a job, did you snag one, or do you have questions you want us to put to the industry best? Contact us @ editorial@thedrum.com and become part of the story.

Together we can find the solutions and get through this. In conclusion, we need your help Working it Out…
