WPP has consolidated its health teams into a global healthcare agency to service pharmaceutical clients producing specialist prescriptions. VMLY&Rx will combine specialist Sudler teams with VMLY&R and is to be led by Claire Gillis, International chief executive officer of WPP Health Practice.

What is VMLY&Rx?

  • VMLY&Rx will service high-value pharmaceutical firms outside the US which specialise in complex prescription medicines.

  • VMLY&Rx supercedes the Sudler brand, which will be retired internationally.

  • The new agency launches with immediate effect, offering a full gamut of services including pre-clinical and clinical support, strategic branding and commercialisation.

  • Gillis said: “We now have a specialist offering that links our Rx (the term used to describe specialist prescription medicines) experience to VMLY&R’s technology and creative firepower at a global level.”

  • Jon Cook, global chief executive officer of VMLY&R, added: “Our ability to create innovative brand experiences, combined with the health experience of Sudler and WPP Health Practice, will create a global team with specialist capabilities built to thrive in the new era of healthcare.”

How does this affect the future of WPP?

  • Unification of WPP’s health teams marks the latest phase of consolidation at the holding company and comes just two years after the VMLYR merger.
  • VMLY&R has emerged as one of the best performing agencies in the WPP family.
