In urgent need of a new e-commerce platform capable of meeting the increasing demand for PPE, Mediworld appointed Kitty to consult and build a solution.

Mediworld needed a solution that could handle the increased user and sales volume, offered a secure payment gateway solution and that offered functionality in line with current web usage trends. The ambition – to grow market share through improved UX and improve digital visibility in a step towards a more digitally focused business model.

Working with Mediworld, Kitty’s solution was to build a new store using BigCommerce’s open SaaS, a fully responsive e-commerce platform.

Mediworld supplies medical and scientific equipment direct to consumers, as well as supplying international bodies such as the UN, hospitals like The Wellington Hospital (London) and companies including Manchester United and Bank of America. Covid-19 had an extraordinary impact on Mediworld’s web sales year-to-date with an increase of 5,750% YoY, which created the need to shift focus to online trading.

Shehzad Khan, director at Mediworld Limited, explained: “As lockdown rules are phased out, there is a responsibility of practicing behaviours that stop the spread of the virus, such as sanitising and wearing masks in public. The new website will aid a vast array of consumers and their ability to obtain products and equipment that are currently high in demand.”

Rob Knight, managing director at Kitty, added: “Mediworld needed a new eCommerce solution fast. As a BigCommerce partner, we can secure priority access to BigCommerce solution architects on behalf of our clients and as a result, we were able to launch the fully functioning site, complete with over 1,500 products in less than 3 weeks! This has enabled Mediworld to take advantage of the huge increase in online demand for its’ products.

“We are really proud to work with a brand like Mediworld, helping to restructure their business position in the market and look forward to continuing the relationship to further develop the platform.”

Kitty work with clients across various sectors and technologies to create bespoke website solutions. It is one of four agencies that make up specialist digital network, TIPi Group. The independent group also houses voice specialist agency Rabbit & Pork, Performance arm Roast and digital consultancy The Market.
