School of Communication Arts and The Drum team up to challenge creativity

The School of Communication Arts (SCA) and The Drum have teamed up to encourage creatives to push the boundaries of advertising and enter The Chip Shop Awards.

The SCA has created a special poster that gives advertising agencies access to the students' creative minds.

Agencies are encouraged to buy one of these posters, not only to help fund the students' education for which all proceeds go to their bursary programme but to also have access to fresh, creative minds for when they need new ideas for campaigns. All they need to do is press the button on the poster and an SMS will be sent to the school signalling to the students that work is coming their way. The agency will then send a brief over and the students will have 24-48 hours to work and present their refreshing ideas.

One of the SCA posters.

The Drum has acquired one of these posters and consequently, set the students two briefs with the outcome to encourage anyone to enter The Chip Shop Awards, whether you’re a student, a teacher, or an executive creative director.

Gordon Young, editor-in-chief of The Drum said: “We want creatives to be creative. All too often people are stifled and hold back on their true potential. Advertising should be about pushing and breaking boundaries. Really showing off the talent in the industry.

“The Chip Shop Awards have been going on for 16 years now and every year, we get some really amazing ideas. So, we teamed up with the School of Communication Arts. They’re the upcoming stars of advertising and by giving them a platform to shine, it’s encouraging that out-of-the-box kind of thinking to filter through.”

Check out the winning students work below and the mockumentary above, following The Drum and SCA's journey throughout the process.

The awards are open for entry. Whoever you are, make sure you submit your creative ideas in before 1 April.
