Angry Birds and Duolingo mascots chirp together in branded app crossover

A month-long partnership in the UK sees a crossover between the passive-aggressive Duolingo owl and the cast of the Angry Birds across both apps.

The media mashup sees Red the Angry Bird appear in the Duolingo app in rewarded video ads mid-lesson, conversing with Duo the owl. Meanwhile, in Angry Birds 2, Duo appears as a branded spell that can be used during gameplay.

Colin Watkins, country manager UK at Duolingo, said: “How often do you get to bring together two iconic characters like this in such a fun way? It’s been a pleasure working with Rovio to bring this crossover to life and we hope the millions of Duolingo and Angry Bird fans out there will find it fun and provide them with more encouragement to keep learning.”

It created a film to mark the occasion, showing the Angry Birds growing ever angrier at a Duolingo user ignoring their lesson notifications.

It's been a busy year for Duolingo. It created a new brand identity with Johnson Banks and ran its first OOH and DOOH campaign in London last September.
