Independent agency Great State has been announced as the digital partner for the climate innovation organisation, EIT Climate KIC - the European knowledge and innovation community, whose purpose is to mitigate the impact of climate change and accelerate our transition to a zero-carbon economy.

The agency will lead the delivery of a critical new platform to facilitate its highly successful 'Climathon' Programme.

The ‘Climathon’ initiative serves as a catalyst for innovation and change at a local level, with a series of city-wide solutions-hackathons at its core. Its vast community brings together funding partners, policymakers, businesses, academics and entrepreneurs, helping local communities and residents to tackle specific local problems through grassroots activism.

The new platform will enable cities around the world to connect and collaborate, in the pursuit of new ideas, products and services. It will empower citizens and city leaders, encouraging them to join the movement and facilitating the promotion and management of hundreds of local hackathon events.

Neil Collard, managing director at Great State, said: “As an agency, we are passionate about using smart tech to solve some of the world’s most urgent and pressing problems. It doesn’t get much more urgent than the current climate crisis. We share EIT Climate-KIC’s vision and recognise that to make an impact and bring about real change requires collaboration and global action. We are thrilled to be a part of that, working to use digital for good and supporting the future success of such an important cause.”

"We are very excited to be working with an agency the calibre of Great State on a large - and technically complex - web and integration project," added Esen Khan, programme manager at EIT Climate-KIC. "As the number of Climathon events around the world increases, and with that the opportunity for more local organisers and participants to engage with the website, we're really looking forward to the full potential of the project being realised."

The intention is to give these communities a mechanism to share knowledge, learn together and inspire action, regardless of location, challenge or language. The tool allows them to monitor the ongoing effectiveness of each activity or idea and give initiatives with the most potential the opportunity to translate into tangible projects backed by the right investment and support.
