News UK, the media stable housing The Sun, The Times and Wireless Group, has made a slew of new hires and promotions intent on "driving long term sustainable growth" and ultimately earn more revenue from the UK's most-read tabloid.

News UK hires

News UK futureproofs top team

Economist chief operating officer and publisher Michael Brunt joins as general manager of The Times and Wireless chief operating officer Jo Bucci moves over to general manager of The Sun. The pair report directly to News UK chief operating officer David Dinsmore, and are responsible for the financial performance of The Times' titles and turning around loses at The Sun.

Brunt joined the Economist Group in 2006 and has since held a number of senior roles in marketing and circulation, including chief marketing officer and managing director of circulation.

Bucci was described as a "pivotal force" at Wireless, particularly in integrating it into News UK. She's previously held roles at the People’s Postcode Lottery, Leicester City Football Club and Capital Radio Group.

Dinsmore said: “These new general manager roles will be hugely influential in driving our strategy to grow and monetise the millions of people who engage with our newsbrands daily. Michael and Jo both have a proven track record of building and monetising powerful media brands across platforms.”

Additional moves

Wireless managing director of commercial development Calum Macaulay takes on the GM role across the radio group, Victoria Bell is now general manager of marketing across News UK and Alison Dolan's chief strategy officer role expands to drive relationships "with key digital platforms".

Finally, in what's been a busy time for the group, Chris Duncan has been named managing director of platform partnerships at The Times.

News UK chief executive Rebekah Brooks said: “As we continue to expand our audiences and grow our revenues, we need to develop new distribution relationships with major platforms. Alison and Chris will be focused on monetizing our content in these spaces, as well as driving digital licensing and off-platform revenues.”

Wireless Group's audience performance was outlined in this morning's Rajars.
