Droga5 London’s first work for Mini since being appointed its global creative agency in February 2018 is a short film by director Yorgos Lanthimos, whose work includes The Favourite and The Lobster.

Matt Dillon in Nimic

Nimic, written with longtime collaborator Efthymis Filippou, features Oscar-nominated actor Matt Dillon and Daphne Patakia. The cryptic trailer for the 12-minute film carries Lanthimos’ bizarrely engaging style. In it, Dillon is seen dourly staring at different things, with only a hint at the action, as he is briefly seen playing cello in an orchestra and riding a subway.

“I was glad to be given the opportunity to work on a shorter format that can be sometimes challenging but quite rewarding," Lanthimos said in a press release. "We developed a script starting from a very intriguing initial idea and concept, and enjoyed great creative freedom during the realisation of the film. It is always very exciting to be invited to think outside the box and wrestle with stimulating ideas.”

While there’s no hint at any brand placement in the trailer, the release stated that “Nimic was made in partnership with Mini as part of their ongoing commitment to celebrate the power of creativity. Thinking outside the box has always driven Mini’s engagement, as their patronage of Nimic demonstrates once again.”

Nimic premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. It was produced by Rekorder Berlin, Superprime Films and Merman London in association with Droga5 London. Salaud Morisset handles international distribution.

The full film is a story of a professional cellist and an encounter he has on the subway which has unexpected and far-reaching ramifications on his life.
