The cast of cult science-fiction sitcom Red Dwarf has departed the Earth once more to reprise their roles for a new television advert on behalf of motoring organisation the AA.

Premiered on ITV, the minute-long adventure sees Lister, Cat, Kryten and Rimmer pilot their Starbug spaceship to another disaster as they breakdown on a desolate alien world, forcing them to call in the services of the AA to get back off the ground.

Stellar Rescue mimics the look and feel of a genuine installment of the long-running show and should put fans of the dysfunctional quartet in the mood for season 13, which is understood to be penciled in for filming later this year.

Red Dwarf proved a hit for the BBC during its run from 1988 to 1999 before being revived by UKTV’s Dave channel in 2009, making this their first appearance on ITV.

The AA recently appointed Goodstuff as its media agency of record as part of efforts to undertake a 'brand transformation'.
