Deliveroo, after receiving a significant Amazon investment, has erected a Great Wall of Chinese in Liverpool, a pop-up experience baited with prizes.
This week, the walkable wall, made from more than 2,000 recycled takeaway boxes, has been erected in "Europe's first China own', which is located in Liverpool's Nelson Street. Prizes over £5,000 worth can be won from the pop-up that the food delivery company claims celebrates Chinese culture and food.
The site is taller than a double-decker bus and seven meters in length and marks the fact the most popular dishes ordered on the app include: Bubble Tea, Siu Long Bao, Prawns Dim Sum and Pork & Preserved Egg Congee.
The walkable-wall experience, open to the public from 21-22 May, contains over 100 different prizes, hidden inside the small takeaway boxes. On social prizes will be dished out to people who post a photo on Instagram and tag it #greatwallofchinese.
Joe Groves, head of consumer comms at Deliveroo, said: “Chinese food continues to be the nation’s favourite takeaway, and at Deliveroo, we have seen orders rise by 136% in the last year. Chinese takeaway is so much more than prawn crackers and sweet and sour chicken balls, it’s great to see Brits being more adventurous with their Deliveroo orders.
"Given Liverpool’s rich history of Chinese heritage and culture, it made perfect sense for us to create the Great Wall of Chinese for our scouse customers."
The installation appeared overnight beneath the iconic Ceremonial Arch and is based on the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall.
Nearby, free food was delivered by local restaurant Wok & Go.
