ChangeUK has become the first political party to take an ethical political advertising pledge as they gear up to contest upcoming elections for the European Parliament.

ChangeUK take ethical advertising pledge in political first

The commitment to greater transparency and accuracy in the party’s marketing is based on a four-point plan for political ad reform drafted by the Coalition for Reform in Political Advertising, with the support of ISBA.

Chris Leslie, Change UK's campaign director for the European Elections, said: "In an era of populism and eroding trust in politics, we should all do our best to raise the standard of debate. Our politics is so broken right now and we are determined to change it. All the parties should join with us in signing up to these political advertising standards."

This includes a promise to identify all digital advertising as being authored by ChangeUK; publish all paid digital advertising on a publicly available webpage and share the substantiation for any claims on a public web page if not on the ad itself.

Finally, the party has committed to revise or suspend any claims which are subsequently found to be misleading by a nominated independent fact-checking service.

The moves come amid mounting political pressure on Facebook to do more to police political ads.
