The Chinese smartphone brand has partnered with the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) as the first official smartphone partner for the tournament.

It is the first time the Chinese-owned brand has sponsored a tennis event. Oppo currently sponsors FC Barcelona and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The deal, which commences this year, will provide both brands with greater awareness in key emerging markets. Oppo is keen to grow its brand in the UK and Europe as part of the company’s strategy to grow globally, while AELTC will leverage Oppo’s brand to grow the reach of Wimbledon in China, India and across South-East Asia.

As part of the deal, Oppo products will be displayed throughout the tournament and Oppo’s technology will be incorporated into the events. Photographers will be given Oppo camera phones to capture the event action with the best photos to be included in a dedicated Oppo Wimbledon photo gallery.

Oppo will also sponsor a Breakthrough Award for young players as well as promoting Wimbledon’s grass court strategy, which aims to provide opportunities for juniors to compete on grass courts.

Brian Shen, vice president, Oppo, said: “The Championships have a strong synergy with our brand values of prioritising innovation and design in our products. We are confident this partnership will further strengthen our expansion plans across the European marketplace and in turn our communication globally.”
