Pepsi has canned an eye-catching launch of an orbital OOH ad not long after it entered into talks with StarRocket to position a glowing billboard in low Earth orbit.

Star struck Pepsi cans orbital billboard dream

A Russian subsidiary of Pepsi had been keen to reach for the stars to advertise its new gamer focussed energy drink, Adrenaline Rush.

It had entertained the notion of sponsoring a flotilla of small light emitting satellites called CubeSats which could be flown in formation to spell out its message to the Earth.

But this will no longer be connected with the soft drink brand.

A PepsiCo spokesperson clarified: “We can confirm StartRocket performed an exploratory test for stratosphere advertisements using the Adrenaline GameChangers logo. This was a one-time event; we have no further plans to test or commercially use this technology at this time.”

StartRocket remains enthusiastic about the concept however and remains hopeful it will find another client with which launching ads skyward from 2021.

Prior Pepsi campaigns have been more down to Earth including its current 'For the love of it' marketing.
