Marking 150 years since the birth of its founder Sir Henry Wood, BBC Proms has launched its 2019 season that presents one of its most diverse programs to date.

With Wood's mission to bring "the best classical music to the widest possible audience" at the heart of its 2019 program, BBC Proms can boast an eclectic roster of musical talent that transverses Afropop to jazz, from hip-hop to pizzica.

Taking place between 19 July and 14 September, BBC Proms 2019 hopes to engage a younger audience with its mission that repositions itself away from the view it is a festival predominantly enjoyed by older generations.

Shaking up the classical programme with a wealth of contemporary genre and styles, BBC Proms 2019 offers a number of entry points for young people to get involved in classical music.

To launch the season of 'unmissable moments' Cavalier Communications produced a film that reflects this injection of young talent. Directed by Adam Townsend and produced by Josh Cawthorn, it sees four young dancers linking up with four young musicians on the streets on the streets of Shoreditch.

In a burst of artistic energy, the group jam together fusing classical music with dance, in an impressive mash-up performance of Winter from Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

Discussing the launch of BBC Proms 2019, its director David Pickard said: “The Proms in 2019 gives a snapshot of all that is most exciting in our musical world today. It is the chance to hear some of the most celebrated ensembles and artists from across the globe, a showcase for the vibrant orchestral life that exists in the UK, and a celebration of the diversity of contemporary music in the 21st century.

"All of this is underpinned by the proud tradition of ‘Promming’ which allows audiences to enjoy this vast range of music for just £6 per concert. As we celebrate 150 years since Henry Wood’s birth, the Proms continues to explore new ground whilst celebrating the founding principles of the festival - to bring the best classical music to the widest possible audience.”
