The leadership position means Lortz will be responsible for both organisations and their respective leadership teams, reporting directly to Justin Billingsley, chief executive of Publicis Groupe DACH and chairman of Publicis Emil.
Together the pair will undertake a strategic review of how to accelerate the integration of Publicis operations in Germany as part of the wider group's ‘Power of One’ philosophy.
Lortz first joined Publicis Media in 1994, steadily working his way through the company at brands such as Starcom, Zenith, Spark Foundry, Digitas and Performics – before landing his current role with Publicis Media DACH in 2016.
Lortz said: “We are in exciting times. Our industry is changing dramatically. With the Power of One model, Publicis has the right strategy in place to successfully drive transformation for our clients. I’m proud and happy to get the chance to build that model together with a fantastic team here in Germany.”
The elevation of Lortz coincides with the departure of Horst Wagner, who is leaving to pursue new challenges outside Publicis.
Publicis Groupe anticipates a 'bumpy ride' this year amid a downturn in US FMCG spend.
