As the room of over 500 marketers finished their coffee and deserts while waiting for the awards to be announced, the pair appeared on stage uninvited with comedian Stuart Goldsmith waiting in the wings looking confused as he believed he should have been on by now.
Zac and Jay took to the microphones to address the confused looking room in order to promote their programme that has an audience of 250,000 subscribers on the Google-owned platform.
“Great marketing is about being in front of the right people at the right time with the right message,” stated the pair as they carried on their ambush of the evening before inviting the audience to join them at the bar for a drink.
“Great marketing also is about being fearless and being remembered,” they continued.
After a minute, the pair departed the stage to some nervous laughter, to be replaced by Goldsmith who had to explain what had happened.
Stephen Lepitak, editor of The Drum, who attended the event, commented: “The Drum loves an underdog and we wish the pair well. I’ve subscribed to The Zac and Jay Show and I’m looking to see what else they get up to in the future.”
The full results from The Drum Marketing Awards can be found on The Drum websites with winners including Greggs for its Valentine’s Day stunt, Birds Eye as Brand of the Year and the Trash Isles campaign from LadBible and AMV BBDO.
