HBO releases Veep stamps honoring the legacy of president Selina Meyer
HBO’s Veep has been one of the sharpest political satires in TV history, chronicling the rise and messy reign of vice-president-then-president-now-candidate Selina Meyer, brilliantly played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
HBO releases Veep stamps
To celebrate the final season of the Emmy award-winning series, premiering on Sunday (31 March), HBO has partnered with Stamps.com to produce a limited edition legal-tender ‘Selina Meyer Presidential Stamp.’ The commemorative 55-cent stamp brings to life the final season’s key art of a Selina Meyer Presidential Forever stamp, which continues the long line of Presidential spoofs leveraged throughout the seven seasons of the series. In true Selina Meyer fashion, however, there is a mistake on the stamp with her face ‘mistakenly’ printed upside down.
In partnership with the Washington Post, the stamps will be distributed on the front cover of the 29 March issue to 10,000 Post subscribers in the Washington DC area.
HBO’s director, consumer marketing, Yauny Wheaton, said: “The idea of creating a presidential stamp for Selina had been marinating with us for a while. We’ve loved parodying iconic presidential imagery over the years, from Washington crossing the Delaware to Obama’s hope poster, and a forever stamp as key art felt like the perfect way to cement her legacy. So naturally we had to turn it into a real stamp but, as of course as would befall Selina, the image on the physical stamps is upside down. While the idea to create stamps was a no-brainer, getting it off the ground had some challenges. That’s where stamps.com came in to help make our vision a reality and we could not be more thrilled with how the partnership worked out.”
In addition, as part of its multi-million-dollar transformation, Hamilton Hotel Washington DC is collaborating with HBO to design a presidential suite and lounge that celebrates and commemorates Veep. The new signature guest suite pays homage to the hit comedy with original furniture, props and memorabilia from the show’s vast seven-season set collection.
As guests, visitors and fans arrive on the hotel’s 12th floor, where the suite resides, they will view a replica of ‘President Selina Meyer’s Oval Office’ in the common area. Curated in conjunction with set designers and prop masters from the series’ production and HBO, original props include the Presidential Resolute Desk, a presidential seal area rug, a grandfather clock, an oversized portrait of Selina, and other recognizable photographs, art and decorative objects.
